A U.S. Marine Corps MQ-9 Reaper Unmanned Aircraft System assigned to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One conducts Satellite Launch and Recovery training as part of Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course 1-26 at the Strategic Expeditionary Landing Field, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California, Oct. 21, 2025. The SLR capability enhances the expeditionary employment of the MQ-9, enabling aircrews to launch and recover the UAS through satellite control without reliance on traditional line-of-sight infrastructure. This capability directly supports the Marine Corps’ objectives for distributed Maritime operations and stand-in force employment by providing persistent Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance and Strike options from austere location.
