Armed with eye pokes and elbow strikes, these women are ready to take command of their own personal safety.
In recognition of Women’s History Month, the CJTF-HOA Women, Peace and Security team hosted a series of self-defense workshops on March 14 and March 28, 2024 inside the fitness tent at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.
The classes were designed to empower women with the knowledge to identify threatening body language, and the skills to takedown an attacker.
“I definitely feel like women are a big target, so its good to come to (events) like this,” said U.S. Army Specialist Elizabeth Taylor, assigned to Taskforce Paxton. “I feel like if more women know (about self-defense), they won’t be a target.”
Women, Peace and Security initiatives like the self-defense seminars help enhance the capabilities of U.S. service members and our African partners by leveraging the contributions of both men and women. (U.S. Air National Guard Video by Senior Airman Kevin Nious)
