    20th CBRNE Command

Sharon Harris, the supervisory logistics management specialist in the Logistics Section (G4) of the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command, shares stories from her military career and describes what celebrating Veterans Day means to her.

Harris, a native of Brooklyn, New York, served as a Unit Supply Specialist and an Automated Logistical Specialist in the U.S. Army from 1995 to 2003.

When Harris’ military career first began, she was known as Pvt. Sharon Nicks and throughout her 8-year military career, she has been stationed at Fort Cavazos, Texas; Fort Stewart, Georgia; and Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

In 1996, while assigned to the 64th Military Police Company, she deployed with her unit to Bosnia and Herzegovina in support of NATO’s mission to establish long-term peace during and after the Bosnian War.

Harris would ultimately finish her military career as a staff sergeant, earning several awards, which include the Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the NATO Medal.

While in service, Harris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Fayetteville State University in 2002. She would later earn her MBA from Walden University in 2010.

After fulfilling her military service commitment, Harris worked several years as a military contractor in Kuwait and later as a logistician in the private sector prior to bringing her talents to the U.S. military’s premier CBRNE formation on Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland (Edgewood Area), in 2010.

The 20th CBRNE Command is a highly technical, special purpose formation of approximately 3,600 Soldiers and 250 civilians stationed across 16 states and 19 different installations.

Today, Harris is married to her husband of 18 years, and they have two children, ages 14 and seven.

After 13 years working as a Department of the Army civilian for the 20th CBRNE Command, Harris has been awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal and Civilian Employee of the Quarter twice and has earned the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service.
