B-Roll of the Sumay Cable Station located on Naval Base Guam, Guam, Jan. 17, 2023. The cable station is where Guam first connected via telecommunications to Hawaii, leading to an encirclement of the entire globe by cable lines laid on the ocean floor. This U.S. Navy asset was struck during WWII, but some of its remains can still be seen today. Today, the military presence in Guam plays an essential part in the 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps’ 2030 Force Design goal of shifting the Marine Corps mission to the Indo-Pacific.
