This year marks the 10th anniversary of recovery operations from a C-124 Globemaster I crash on Colony Glacier near Anchorage, Alaska, Nov. 22, 1952. Each June, since 2012, a joint recovery team of U.S. Army soldiers, Airmen and civilians from Air Force Mortuary Affairs, Alaskan Command Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System has supported Colony Glacier recovery efforts to bring home the remains and personal effects of the 52 service members on board.
