General Dan McNeill, Commanding General, US Army Forces Command, speaks to audience at the Third US Army change of command ceremony at Fort McPherson, Georiga. He says the 3rd Army motto "Third Always First" has never been so true as is was on september 11, 2001. The organization had taken the lead before anyone in taking the fight to the terrorists. GEN McNeill calls the 3rd Army outgoing commander, LTG McKiernan a visionary and that he was the driving force behind the success of 3rd Army in the attack of Iraq and what it is doing today. Says he had the intellect, energy, and perseverance to fight through the obstacles in moving tens of thousands of soldiers and equipment to the southwest asia, while moving headquarters. General McNeill calls LTG McKiernan a remarkable soldier and an amazing leader. Says LTG Whitcomb is the right person, at the right place, at the right time. Says he is in debt of LTG Whitcomb because he was the calm voice of reason at Central Command Headquarters; his leadership can be counted on at 3rd Army.
