(June 30, 2021) Jackson-native Carson Marshall, a 2019 graduate of Northside High School, has been awarded the Navy’s prestigious, $180,000 Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Scholarship, which will pay his four-year expenses to attend Savannah State University in Savannah, GA. Marshall was selected for the scholarship from among thousands of applicants nationwide, and was chosen because of his exceptional academic and leadership record. He formally received the scholarship during a ceremony at the new “HUB Club” youth organization located on 201 Ash street on Wednesday, June 30.
Academically, Carson scored a 30-composite score on the ACT and showed great leadership while a member of the football, track, cross-country, and tennis teams. He also practices Brazilian Jiu jitsu and was a nationally ranked racquetball player. On Wednesday, June 30 Commander DJ Jackson, Deputy Director, Outreach and Diversity, Navy Recruiting Command, Commander Sheree Williams, Deputy Commandant, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institution (DEOMI) and Vice Mayor/Councilman Johnny Lee Dodd presented Carson with his scholarship.
