Interview with Sergeant First Class Robert Bubach (from Lisbon, ND). He is a history and physics teacher and coaches football back in North Dakota. Says he misses Friday night high school football, but that he gets to listen to the games here over the internet. Talks about future plans, his family, the support he gets from back home, and food. Describes his homtown Lisbon and what he'll do if he gets to take leave. He reads a lot to pass the time in Iraq and gets DVDs of the football games. SFC Bubach keeps a diary to record activities and capture his thoughs and feelings. His unit runs mail and other items to LSA Anaconda (Balad) and recounts a rocket propelled grenade attack that barely missed a vehicle in his convoy. Talks about how training prepared him and focused soldiers on discipline. Describes conditions at FOB Speicher and the differences of how people live in Iraq. He hasn't interacted much with the local population. He hopes to get home to see the last football game. Talks about his unit's performance and morale, and that the battalion has lost two soldiers clearing roadside bombs. Says being in Mesopotamia has insights for a world history teacher. He would see historic places in the region if it weren't dangerous to go. He shows the photos and artwork up on his wall and talks about family events after his tour is over and transitioning back to school life. Video from 196th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.
