Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department continues to train U.S. Army Reserve 12M Army firefighters from the 163rd Ordnance Company out of Tustin, California. They learned methods of extricating victims from a vehicle involved in a crash using the "jaws of life" cutter, spreader, and other tools, many of them hydraulic powered, May 13. Spc. Edgar Ponce and Pvt. Aurelio Castallenos took turns, guided by FHL firefighters and their own fire captain, Sgt. Celso Perez. Wrecked cars are donated by a junkyard for the firefighters to practice on.
