(In regards to preparing for the deployment)1:26 Spent a month a Fort Hood Texas, last summer went out to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Ca. where we had a force on force exercise. And most recently we did a three week annual training at Fort Pickett Va. honing the individual skills, preparing for the deployment

1:50 Over the last decade or so we’ve been accustomed to deploying to the CENTCOM AOR and here is a unique opportunity to deploy to Europe where actually this unit traces it’s lineage back with the 628 Tank Destroyer Battalion in WWII. The Soldiers will get an opportunity to interact with our NATO allies. In particular, our Battle Group will have US personnel, and personnel from United Kingdom, Romania and Croatia. And in addition to working with our NATO allies, our Soldiers will get to see a part of the world that they otherwise wouldn’t have.

2:34 We’ve asked a lot of our families and employers over the course of the last 2 and 1/2 years in preparation for this deployment. I can’t thank them enough for lending their Soldiers to us to ensure they made the requirements for the upcoming mission.

    Houser is from Athen Pa.

2:50 I was with the Marine Corps for most of my career and I’ve been with the National Guard for the past seven years. I love being with the Guard, I am from Pennsylvania, people know where Athen Pennsylvania is now in my unit. I’m very proud to serve with Pennsylvanians and be a tanker as part of combat arms has been a special privilege. I’ve wanted to be a tank most of my military career and this has been my first chance. I’m very grateful as well for the serious training, a little tiring sometimes. We trained very thoroughly these last few years and I am sure we will continue to train.

3:32 Our own need to be a force of deterrence is part of the NATO mission and is paramount.

3:40 The opportunity to be on tanks, to train on tanks and to work with NATO and some of our sister countries would be great.
