Members of the 145th Airlift Wing in Charlotte, North Carolina, along with special guests, family and friends, were present to celebrate the retirement ceremony of Brigadier General Clarence Ervin, Chief of Staff of the North Carolina Air National Guard on Saturday, February 9th
He served in many roles; such as Commander of the Mission Support Group, Vice-Wing Commander and Chief of Staff.
After a long and successful career, General Ervin had the following message to those wishing to follow in his steps.
(Brig General Ervin) Things will come to you. It may not be on the path that you want to take, you may have to take a detour, that's okay. Sometimes things happen through you path, not necessarily just to slow things down or hold you back. set a goal. Don't be a Brigadier general, but major general. I want everyone to exceed what I've done. Realize that your most important asset is your people. They're the ones that make you look good."
What message does he have for those at the 145th?
(Brig General Ervin) The wing is in good hands, its in good shape. We have some challenges, but we always have. We need to continue to strive on that, and to also make sure we have a diverse group of people to select from as we consider our next leaders. Everybody doesn't need to look like me, look like you, because that's the strength of the organization.
Reporting from the 145th Airlift Wing in Charlotte, North Carolina, I'm Airman Juan Paz.
