Poznan, Poland, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Greater Poland Uprising and the banner award ceremony for the Air Operations Mobile Command Element, based in Babkach, Poland, at the Wolnosci Square in Poznan, Poland, January 5.
The Greater Poland Uprising was the biggest and the only victorious military insurrection of Poles against German rule during the Partitions period. The uprising broke out on December 27, 1918 in Poznan, Poland, after a patriotic speech by Lgnacy Paderewski, the famous pianist, who would later become the Polish prime minister in 1919.
The celebration of the uprising’s centennial was held in multiple locations throughout Poznan with reenactments of the historical event in each location.
In addition to, the Air Operations Mobile Command Element is awarded their banner colors since their inception. The unit has been in operation since January 1, 2011 without colors until the awarding ceremony the day of the city-wide celebration.
