YOUNGSTOWN-WARREN AIR RESERVE STATION, OHIO, UNITED STATES

Video by Master Sgt. Bob Barko

    910th Airlift Wing

It has been one year since Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the Texas coast, bringing more than 60 inches of rainfall. Those conditions brought the possibility of the outbreak of diseases carried by mosquitoes due to millions of acres of standing, stagnant water. Responding to this threat, mosquito control in the affected areas were started. With resources stretched thin and the titanic scope of the task at hand, the state of Texas and FEMA turned to the Department of Defense for assistance. Air Force Reserve Command's 910th Airlift Wing, based at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, home of the DoD's only large area, fixed-wing aerial spray mission, answered the call. This is the story of their mission.
