On June 1, 2018, Coalition troops and Iraqi counterparts built Fire Base Um Jorais, south of Sinjar, Iraq near the border with Syria. Fire Base Um Jorais provided indirect fire support to ground forces under Operation Roundup to accelerate the defeat of ISIS in Syria. Third Cavalry Regiment troopers fire M777 howitzers. Partners from the 15th Iraqi Army division fired M109 Paladins and D-20 howitzers. Coalition and Iraqi guns at Fire Base Um Jorais provided artillery support to Operation Roundup for 34 days.
