Mop up is a wild land firefighting term for making a fire safe, or to reduce residual smoke by extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines. The 176th was called into state active duty to assist Wash. Department of Natural Resources after Governor Jay Inslee issued an emergency proclamation on July 31.
