Staff Sgt. Carlos Mercado, a Paratrooper assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, joins 101 other competitors from across the U.S. Army in the Best Ranger Competition held on Fort Benning, Ga., April 13 through 15, 2018. U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Chad Stackpole, senior noncommissioned officer of the Advanced Airborne School on Fort Bragg, mentored Mercado through the competition. Six competitors represented the 82nd Airborne Division in the competition this year. Mercado and his partner placed 14th of 51 teams. (U.S. Army video by Sgt. R.W. Hairston)
