The 127th Wing, and the Selfridge Base Community Council, honored Donald "Digger" Odell, a retired lieutenant colonel, and ex-POW, by renaming a street on Selfridge Air National Guard Base after him. On October 17th, 1967, Odell was flying his 17th combat mission when his F-105 Thunderchief was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile. He was held captive for 5 1/2 years at the infamous Hoa Lo POW Prison (Hanoi Hilton) in North Vietnam.
Since his medical retirement in 1975, Odell has continued to serve Selfridge, and the local community in various capacities.
