Attorney and reigning Miss Black Maryland USA, Saidah Grimes, visited cadets within the Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy in Laurel, Maryland, to discuss the "school-to-prison pipeline" and the link between juvenile arrests and youth entering the criminal justice system. CGYCA is a life intervention, dropout reintegration, GED preparatory program, run by the District of Columbia National Guard --- in partnership with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education.
In addition to addressing the "school-to-prison pipeline," Grimes covered a myriad of other legal topics to include citizens’ rights if stopped by law enforcement, the differences between probably cause and reasonable suspicion, how to choose an attorney in the event you end up on the wrong side of the law and the art of argument.
