CSM James P. Wills Interim Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Reserve Suicide Prevention Awareness Month PSA.
CSM Wills: During National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, I ask you to join me in re-energizing our annual suicide prevention efforts.
Divorce, job loss, financial troubles, and lack of self-esteem are all conditions that can lead Soldiers to believe that suicide is their only option. But living is coping, and we help our Soldiers learn how to get through it. That’s why it is crucial that our Leaders step in to help.
Know your Soldiers. Find ways to communicate. Stay engaged with them not just on battle assembly weekends, but throughout the month.
Staying engaged in their lives, and knowing signs of stress before it becomes a crisis, can save lives.
The Army is family, and the Army Reserve is our Family. And we take care of our own.
By providing our Soldiers with a sense of purpose and mutual support, we can reduce the number of suicides in our ranks.
Every Soldier counts, and I’m counting on you to do your part.
If you or someone you know is struggling, I urge you to contact the Military Crisis Line at 1.800.273.8255.
