U.S. Marines with the Combat Cargo section unload supplies from a Navy CH-53D Sea Stallion helicopter after it lands aboard the flight deck of the forward deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD-2), in support of Operation Tomodachi. U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (HMM 262), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), are scanned for radiation aboard the Essex. The 31st MEU's involvement is part of a larger U.S. government response, after a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan causing wide spread damage.
