John Carpenter, a World War II veteran, is presented the French Legion of Honor, at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., for his service during World War II. Carpenter participated in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge as a logistics soldier. Carpenter, 29 during D-Day, was much older than the soldiers around him were. His experience was valuable to the war effort and soldiers around him.
