Engineers and technicians conduct environmental testing at the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, Sept. 15, 2026. Established in 1944, the laboratory provides controlled environmental conditions to evaluate the performance, reliability and durability of military systems in extreme climates. The facility’s capabilities include extreme temperature, humidity, rain, snow, icing, sand, dust, salt fog and solar radiation testing, supporting the Department of Defense, government agencies and industry partners. By recreating some of the world’s harshest environments, the laboratory transforms test data into engineering knowledge that improves system reliability, reduces risk and increases confidence that equipment will perform when the mission demands it.
