WESTHAMPTON BEACH, N.Y. — Members of the New York Air National Guard’s 106th Rescue Wing reflect on their experiences during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Col. Michael F. Canders, who was the 102nd Rescue Squadron commander on Sept. 11, 2001; Lt. Col. Christopher Hardej, a 102nd Rescue Squadron HC-130 navigator; and Senior Master Sgt. Kevin Carrick, a 102nd Rescue Squadron pararescueman, share firsthand accounts from inside the World Trade Center and the emergency response at Ground Zero.
