Researchers from ERDC’s Coastal and Hydraulics Lab recently demonstrated their Scalable Autonomous Modular Propulsion kits for coastal and riverine Operational Logistics (SAMPOL) on the Yazoo River in Vicksburg, Miss.

Funded by U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), the SAMPOL platform is an autonomous system designed to be mounted on any vessel already in theater with enough buoyancy to assist with military logistics and wet gap crossings. The kits can be shipped in a single container and installed in port providing modular autonomous self-propulsion capabilities, remote piloting capabilities and supports the retrofitting of local barges as a work platform to assist port damage repair efforts.
