Military Working Dogs do far more than apprehend a suspect who poses a threat. Their sense of smell also lets them detect the chemical residue left behind by explosive compounds. In the event of a threat, on- or off-base, the 341st Security Forces Squadron Military Working Dog teams are ready to locate it and clear the area for follow-on personnel. Explosive detection training is just one of many training regimens these teams run to stay ready for the call, wherever it takes them.
The dogs are trained rigorously in unfamiliar environments, finding high-interest objects and devices, and making sure the location is safe for more personal to enter. (U.S. Air Force video by Airman 1st Class Ethan Wilson)
