Leaders from Mons and members of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe gathered to commemorate 81 years since the end of World War II in Europe and the liberation of the camps during Victory in Europe Day ceremonies in Mons, Belgium, May 8, 2026. Memorial events included tributes to veterans at the Place du Parc War Memorial, political prisoners at Rue des Barbelés, the executed at the ancien Tir communal on Chemin de la Procession and the Organisation Militaire Belge de Résistance at the Grand-Place. The annual ceremonies highlight the enduring historical bond between the city of Mons and the international military community at SHAPE, reaffirming a shared commitment to peace and collective defense.
