Reserving campgrounds at two Kansas Lakes will get easier before the 2020 spring recreation season as parks transition to the Recreation.gov website for reservations.
Between February and March 2020 a total of more than 100 electrical campsites at three parks on Pearson-Skubitz Big Hill and Elk City lakes will be added to the Recreation.gov system.
"More and more often people don't carry or use cash for their transactions," said Allen Zylstra, ranger at the Big Hill Lake Project Office, which also manages Elk City Lake. "It will also help us get away from the process of collecting money which creates its own administrative and safety challenges."
All fees collected from Corps of Engineers campgrounds are returned to the U.S. Treasury Department. Utilizing the Recreation.gov website will add stability to the reservation process.
Campers can reserve campsites by visiting www.recreation.gov and searching for their lake of choice.
