In this issue we look back at the history of Navy Medicine in Italy (and before that the Italian Peninsula States)–from the appearance of our first overseas hospital in Syracuse in the Kingdom of Sicily during the first Barbary War to the role of medical personnel in World War II’s Italian Campaign to the vital medical support that is provided to the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa today.
