In this edition of Fast Facts, we look back at Navy Medicine in the “Forgotten War,” which began on June 25, 1950. Navy medical personnel left an indelible mark on this conflict—from heroic efforts in the daring Inchon invasion and the harrowing Chosin Reservoir campaign to leading vital life-saving medical innovations. Navy medical personnel were also awarded a remarkable five Medals of Honor, 27 Navy Crosses and 122 Silver Stars for bravery in Korea.

In this edition, we look back at true legends of en-route care—Navy flight nurses of World War II. Along with specially designated air evacuation pharmacist’s mates, these nurses flew into the active battlefields of Iwo Jima and Okinawa where they provided critical care and evacuated thousands of Sailors, Marines, and Soldiers.
