In the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan, the relief effort in Tacloban has ramped up. Additional air support from the U.S. Navy along with several other nations has helped get supplies to remote areas. Marine Cpl. Tyler Mitchell takes us to Tacloban Air Base for the story.

The multi-national force continues the steady stream of relief supplies to devastated areas in and around the city of Tacloban, Republic of the Philippines. Daily loading and flight operations keep the aid continually pushed out to the displaced locals. To date, more than 630,000 pounds of relief aid has been loaded and sent out.

This video is a unique angle of a Blackhawk helicopter delivering water to a fire using a bambi bucket. When the helicopter is in position, the crew releases the water to extinguish or suppress the fire below. The shots consist of a take off from the staging field, dips from a nearby pond to get water and several drops on two different fire locations. This action takes place in the High Park Fire to try to mitigate spot fires in the area west of Fort Collins, Colorado. Available in High Definition.

Soldiers of the Kansas National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 108th Aviation Regiment and Company G, 2-135th General Support Aviation Battalion assist firefighting operations underway in Colorado. The Guardsmen deployed to Colorado June 12 at the request of that state’s emergency management officials to support ongoing ground firefighting efforts in an area at the High Park in Larimer County, Colo., approximately 15 miles west of Fort Collins.

The crew provided structure protection and helped support back burns by dropping water from Bambi buckets.

YOKOSUKA, Japan. U.S. Navy Barge YON-287, filled with 851,000 liters (225,000 gallons) of fresh water, departs Fleet Activities Yokosuka March 26 to support cooling efforts at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. YON-287 is the 2nd barge of two supplied by the U.S. Navy at the request of the Government of Japan to aid in the cooling efforts. The two barges supplied a total of 1.89 million liters (500,000 gallons) of fresh water. This transfer will not involve the use of U.S. Navy personnel. In response to severe flooding in Pakistan in the autumn of 2010, the United States responded with a massive humanitarian relief effort. As part of that effort, for two months, Marines with 15th and 26th Marine Expeditionary Units saved thousands of lives by using helicopters to deliver world food program supplies to stranded Pakistanis.
