HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A team of six airmen with the Arkansas National Guard hit the ground here early this morning armed with chainsaws in order to assist in clearing the Garland County roads of trees downed by Tuesday’s storm.
The airmen are members of the Guard’s 189th Rapid Augmentation Team, which actually calls the Little Rock Air Force Base home.
The team made the treacherous drive from Little Rock Last night, a mere two hours after receiving the initial call for support.
The team is anticipated to continue work in the area through tomorrow.
The mission is one of several for the Guard, the first of which began yesterday in Pulaski and Faulkner Counties.
The Guard’s 213th Area Support Medical Company of the 87th Troop Command and the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s 2nd Battalion continue to provide four-wheel drive ambulance support to the Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services in Conway, Little Rock and Jacksonville.
The units are supporting the missions with a total of seven military ambulances and 14 personnel.
The 39th Brigade is also supporting Pulaski County with two 30 kilowatt generators, while the Camp Robinson-based 77th Theater Aviation Brigade responded to a separate generator support request from Hempstead County.
