    82nd Combat Aviation Brigade

FORT BRAGG, N.C. – The 122nd Aviation Support Battalion conducted a family fun run complete with costumes to celebrate the coming together of soldiers and family members after a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan, Oct. 25.

“This is a great way to bring everyone back together with their families after a year apart,” 122nd ASB Commander Lt. Col. Darryl Gerow said.

Costumes were included in the run as a way to celebrate Halloween and have a little fun.

“We had talked about this run a few months ago while still downrange and somehow the costumes were added as a last minute idea,” said Gerow.

The 1-22nd ASB recently returned from their yearlong deployment to Afghanistan where they served as Task Force Atlas in Regional Command – East and are completing their block leave this week.

“We wanted to bring everyone together before we got back to a regular day now that everyone is coming back as a way to reintegrate the families and soldiers,” said 122nd ASB Rear Detachment Commander Capt. Kris Toman.

One Atlas soldier who used the opportunity to reunite with his family was Sgt. Nicholas Chavis.

“We had a lot of fun and my kids thought it was cool to be out here with all of us,” said Chavis.
