    NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, UNITED STATES

    10.16.2012

    Story by Bill Peoples

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has scheduled a public workshop from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at the Lake Barkley Resource Office conference room, 200 Barkley Dam Overlook, Grand Rivers, Ky. 42045-0218 to discuss reducing the hours of operation at the Barkley Lock effective Jan. 7, 2013.

Reducing the hours of operation from 24 to 20 hours per day is part of a Corps-wide effort to reduce operational costs and to increase funds for maintenance requirements. The hours of closure are 2 to 6 a.m. daily. Lockages started before the normal close of business will be completed before the lock is closed for the day.

This operational schedule has previously been implemented at navigation locks on the upper Tennessee River with little disturbance to navigation traffic.

For more information, please call the Nashville District Navigation Branch at 615-736-5607.
