NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville District employees set a good pace to workplace wellness today during the “Corps on the Move” walking event.

Led by Lt. Col. James A. DeLapp, commander, and Maj. Patrick Dagon, deputy commander, 41 headquarters employees walked approximately three miles from Estes Kefauver Federal Building to L.P. Field and back.

DeLapp said it is important for the Corps of Engineers to provide employees with an opportunity to get a jump start to maintain healthy living and physical fitness.

“We are happy to participate in this event today,” said DeLapp. “We want our employees to see the benefit of getting out and exercising and ultimately making them more effective in what they do every day.”

Flournette Roper, management analyst, said this event coincides with National Employee Health and Fitness Day and it supports the Nashville District’s Army Health Promotion Program.

“Army Health Promotion Program encourages active participation in all aspects of health promotion,” said Roper. “Our biggest program is our partnership with the Downtown YMCA; however, we only have 130 memberships available. When we sponsor walks and health education seminars, everyone can participate.”

Tammy Turley, chief of the Nashville District Regulatory Branch, reported that the regulatory team from J. Percy Priest Regulatory Office also participated in a “Corps on the Move” event.

“We had eight participants that walked a little less than three miles,” said Turley. “It was a good team building exercise in addition to being good exercise.”

Following the event, Roper added that the “Corps on the Move” event had a good turnout and the Nashville District plans to include the walking event in next year’s Employee Health and Fitness Month activities.
