VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia Beach-based Navy SEALs hosted the Lynnhaven Wahoos, a youth baseball team at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Feb. 28.
The team-building tour included a presentation of weapons employed by U.S. special operations personnel, a lecture on mental toughness, a tour of training facilities, and a workout demonstration that special warfare operators utilize to optimize their physical readiness. After the demonstrations, the baseball players were provided a chance to participate in a water obstacle course at the Naval Special Warfare pool.
“The mental toughness lecture focused on mental visualization and self-talking. Ninety percent of professional athletes use these techniques,” said a Navy SEAL giving the presentation. “Navy SEALs use these techniques before we go into battle; these are practices that all can utilize to be successful.”
After completing the obstacle course, the baseball players huddled together on bleachers and thanked their SEAL mentors for the class and the workout.
“We cherished the opportunity to visit with the SEALs,” said Mark Bussey, head coach of the Wahoos. “We are very appreciative to be able to experience this team building event and to learn mental toughness from the most elite military force we have.”
