MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - Golfers combined their love of the game with their sense of giving during the Commanding General’s Holiday Four-Person Golf Tournament Dec. 13 at the Desert Winds Golf Course. Along with their entrance fee, participants could also bring along a donation for the Toys for Tots collection box.

Although bringing a gift was optional, the golfers filled two of the golf course’s barrels with toys for the children.

The outpour of generosity is not uncommon for the annual event, said Todd Wade, course pro, Desert Winds Golf Course.

“This is a great event that I also played in last year,” said golfer Jeremy Putasu. “It is a great time to come out with friends and enjoy a day of golf.”

The holiday tournament was a four-person scramble, allowing participants of all skill levels to participate and have a good time.

“You don’t have to have a good golfer on the team,” Wade said. “As long as you have one or two it is fun for everyone.”

Even a constant chilly drizzle could not suppress the festive spirit.

“It’s a light rain and not that heavy so if they move around it’s not so bad, and we have not had any complaints,” Wade said. “It didn’t affect them too much and they could still have a good time.”

After the golfers completed the course, they waited in the lobby for scores to be counted and the winners to be announced.

Once the all the scores had been calculated the winning team was Jim Sanderson, Gearge Schadegg, Patrick Steeve and Scott Stanley with a total score of 63.
