ISTANBUL, Turkey – The guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea completed a four-day port visit to Istanbul, Turkey, Oct. 15. During the port visit, Philippine Sea’s crew hosted a formal reception for Turkish military and civilian leaders, as well as explored the city and experience the local culture.
“Our visit to the Black Sea region shows the increasing strength between the U.S. and our European partners,” said Capt. Herbert Hadley, commanding officer of Philippine Sea. “We met with local leaders and had the honor to host a reception and provide tours for local visitors. We look forward to continuing the friendship between our countries.”
Sailors also had the opportunity to explore the city and interact with the local people.
“We are happy to have the chance to visit Istanbul,” said Philippine Sea’s Command Master Chief Scott Kircher. “This port provided us with an opportunity to meet with the Turkish people, and for the crew to experience the history and culture Turkey has to offer.”
Philippine Sea is on a regularly scheduled deployment in the Black Sea and serves to promote peace and security in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
