    FORT BELVOIR, Va. -- Defense Logistics Agency Director Navy Vice Adm. Alan Thompson has selected Redding Hobby as the new deputy director of DLA Logistics Operations.

    Hobby was previously executive director of strategic programs within DLA Logistics Operations. He will replace John Hall, who left the agency in early July to become president of the Army Logistics University at Fort Lee, Va.

    “Redding has tackled some of [the Defense Department’s] and DLA’s toughest issues, including Base Realignment and Closure, Strategic Network Optimization and the Comprehensive Materiel Response Plan,” Thompson said in announcing Hobby’s selection. “This new assignment is a testament to Redding’s exceptional leadership skills and superb performance at the senior leadership level. He brings broad experience to this challenging assignment, and I am confident he will enhance our worldwide support to our warfighters.”

    Hobby is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and retired from the Army in 2002. Before coming to DLA, he was he was deputy director of logistics, contracting and engineering at U.S. Central Command, at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
