Spc. Lee Elder
133rd MPAD
BALAD, Iraq (August 1, 2006)-- Many newly promoted Soldiers serving here in Operation Iraqi Freedom don't get a chance to be congratulated firsthand by their spouses.
Staff Sgt. Nathan Wyatt, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Task Force Band of Brothers was promoted during a ceremony held in front of the battalion headquarters on Logistical Support Area Anaconda. He serves as noncommissioned officer in charge of the unit's personnel section.
The first to congratulate him was his first wife, Shannon. She is a sergeant who serves in the personnel section of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat, Task Force Band of Brothers, at nearby Forward Operating Base Warhorse.
"I couldn't do it without her," Wyatt said. "I want to thank my wife for helping me get through this and her dedication to the Army. She could get out at any time, but she chooses to stay here and help me."
The couple met four years ago while they were serving in Korea and have an 11-year-old son.
A Louisville, Ky., native, Wyatt thanked his fellow Soldiers as well as his commander for the opportunities here. He will remain at his current position ensuring all of the unit's personnel actions are done correctly and on time.
In addition to his duties behind the desk, Wyatt serves as the battalion's trainer on the Raven, an unmanned, remote-controlled aerial drone used for reconnaissance. He ensures the miniature aircraft is fully operational and that its operators are fully trained in its operation.
Wyatt graduated from Louisville's Trinity High School in 1997 and joined the Army the following year. He began his career serving as an infantryman serving at Fort Bragg, N.C., and converted to personnel in 2002. He arrived at Fort Carson, Colo., where the battalion is based, in 2004.
