HERAT, Afghanistan -- More than 500 recruits from 207th Afghan National Army Corps took the oath of enlistment June 23 at Camp Zafar. The recruits take the oath at the halfway point of their basic military training.
The recruits formed up at the parade grounds at Camp Zafar in western Afghanistan to conduct a traditional ceremony of enlistment. A long table covered with cloths, weapons, radios and Korans were set up in front of the stage where generals and distinguished visitors sat to watch.
The 207th’s band played while the unit colors were posted in front of the table. The recruits then marched up by flight, placed their right hand on the Koran and recited the oath.
“This is a very proud tradition that our recruits go through,” Col. Yusus Wardak, commander of 207th Afghan National Army Corps. “Once our recruits say the oath, they feel proud to be a part of the Army and know that they are here to serve their country and make a positive difference.”
After the recruits took the oath, a cannon was fired and the band played in celebration for the new members of the Afghan National Army.
