KABUL, Afghanistan — Lynn resident, Sgt. Amy J. Barry, a human resources specialist with the 26th “Yankee” Brigade, Task Force Yankee, Massachusetts Army National Guard was promoted to the rank of Staff Sgt. during a Promotion Ceremony on Camp Phoenix here, May 2.
Barry is the mother of Timothy 16, a student at Essex Agricultural & Technical High School in Hawthorne, Mass., and Dustin, 14, a student at the Sacred Heart School in Lynn, Mass.
Even when she is not deployed Barry is a National Guard soldier on active duty based out of Camp Curtis Guild, Reading Mass.
Sgt. 1st Class Claudy Charles, who was Barry’s supervisor back in Massachusetts said, “I think it was a well-deserved promotion. Her effort, dedication and patience came to fruition today.”
Expressing her feelings about being promoted Barry said, “It feels good and I don’t think I would be the non-commissioned officer I am without Sgt. 1st Class Charles.”
On Camp Phoenix Barry is collecting donations for Operation Outreach. Operation Outreach is an organization located in Afghanistan made up of volunteers from the U.S. military, International Security Assistance Force, NATO and several civilians that help children and families.
