VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Hanahan, S.C., native and Hanahan High School class of 2007 graduate, Sgt. Ricky T. Bergman, a communications technician, was presented with a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal at Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, April 21.
Bergman received the award for his prior selection as the 2nd Marine Division's Marine of the Year. The 2nd Marine Division is located in Camp Lejeune, N.C., and has total personnel strength of more than 20,000 Marines. Bergman was selected by a panel of senior leadership as the Division's top Marine.
In the award citation, his performance from January through December 2010 was characterized as exceptionally professional and committed to excellence. The citation also mentioned his superior leadership skills, flexibility, initiative, and the ability to achieve superb results regardless of the scope or complexity of any task assigned to him.
Overall, the citation describes his as an example for all Marines to emulate.
During his tour of duty with 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January to September 2009.
His father Ricky T. Goodman still resides in Hanahan, S.C.
Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group is a unit in the Marine Corps that provides conventional training and advisor teams to work alongside partner Nations' security forces.
