    Story by Spc. Jeanita Pisachubbe

1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade

CAMP MARMAL, Afghanistan – Two Black Hawk UH-60 helicopters belonging to Task Force Mustang, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division traveled between Regional Command (North) headquarters at Camp Marmal, Afghanistan and three outposts in Kunduz province delivering Christmas meals to U.S Army soldiers and their joint-coalition partners, Dec. 25.

One of the Black Hawks was filled to the brim with the food provided by the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. The passengers of the other Black Hawk included U.S. Army Col. Sean Mulholland, deputy commander, RC(N), U.S. Army Col. Daniel Williams, commander, 4th CAB, and U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Donald Rose, senior enlisted leader, 4th CAB, who oversaw the transport and delivery of the dinners.

Soldiers from both units loaded the food into the helicopters at Forward Operating Base Kunduz and then transported and unloaded it at three other remote outposts.

The arrival of the Black Hawks and their bounty were met by hungry soldiers, who expressed their thanks to the leaders.

“This is pretty awesome,” U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael Creed, 26, Springfield, Mo., mortar section sergeant with Company C, 187th Infantry Regiment, 1st BCT, 10th Mtn. Div., said. “They don’t have to go out of their way for us, but they do.”

Williams brought two of his command group drivers along on this mission, including U.S. Army Spc. Stephen Barbee, 24, Dacula, Ga., 4th CAB, who is on his first combat deployment.

“It felt great knowing I did something for somebody else who didn’t have the same chance to have what we have in Marmal,” Barbee said about his part in delivering meals to the soldiers in the outer posts. “We are so fortunate; it’s good to give back.”

U.S. Army Spc. Benjamin Scuderi, 19, Selden, N.Y., team leader, Company C, 187th Inf. Regt., 1st BCT, 10th Mtn. Div., another first-time deployer said the meals being brought to him and his fellow soldiers were great and much appreciated.

“It reminds me of what I’m missing,” he said, “the good stuff in life.”

Among the 4th CAB command group delivering the meals was Rose, 45, Whitefish, Mont.
Rose said his Christmas wish would be all American soldiers were home with their families.

Until that time, Rose said, he is exactly where he wants to be during this holiday season, “supporting young warriors” on the front line.
