WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senior leaders from U.S. Africa Command, Special Operations Command Africa, and partner militaries participated in the National Defense Industrial Association's Emerging Technologies for Defense Conference in Washington, D.C. Sept. 8-10, 2026.
This year's conference placed a major focus on the African theater and AFRICOM initiatives, marking the first time African partner nations participated in the annual event.
Throughout the conference, command representatives highlighted joint experimentation, defense economics, rapid innovation, and security cooperation, including initiatives like the Africa Multidomain Training and Experimentation Center in Morocco (AMTEC).
“We need to move technology into the hands of the operator sooner; we need to link the engineers and the developers with the warfighter,” said U.S. Air Force Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander of AFRICOM.
Key sessions featured international perspectives on defense production, regional training capacity, and coalition interoperability from Moroccan Air Force Maj. Gen. Fouad Moumen, chief of the 4th Bureau of the Royal Armed Forces of Morocco and Nigerian Army Maj. Gen. Babatunde Ibrahim Alaya, director general of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria.
Their participation underscores a shared commitment to strengthening allied defense industrial capabilities, addressing transnational security challenges, and advancing long-term regional stability across the continent.
