Senior recruiting leaders from across the U.S. Armed Forces gathered at Naval Air Station Pensacola Aug. 26-27 for the 2026 Joint Recruiting Commanders’ Conference, an annual forum focused on strengthening military recruiting and identifying opportunities for collaboration across the services.
Hosted this year by Navy Recruiting Command, the conference brought together recruiting commanders, senior enlisted leaders, and staff from across the military services with representatives from the Office of the Secretary of War, Accession Policy, to discuss the current recruiting environment, share service-level updates, and identify opportunities for joint process and policy improvements.
“Every service has its own mission, culture and recruiting requirements, but we are all competing for talent in the same dynamic environment and ultimately working toward the same objective—ensuring our nation has the people it needs to defend itself,” said Rear Adm. Forrest Young, Commander, Navy Recruiting Command. “This conference gives us an important opportunity to learn from one another, identify common challenges and work together on solutions that strengthen recruiting across the Joint Force.”
The Joint Recruiting Commanders’ Conference is convened annually by OSW Accession Policy, with hosting responsibilities rotating among the military services. The forum provides senior recruiting leaders an opportunity to examine recruiting trends and challenges at the national level while sharing successful approaches and identifying issues that may benefit from coordinated action.
“Recruiting is fundamentally about people, and each of us benefits when we find better ways to connect qualified Americans with opportunities to serve,” Young said. “We may wear different uniforms, but sharing what works and addressing common barriers together ultimately makes all of our services stronger.”
In addition to formal conference sessions at NAS Pensacola’s Mustin Beach Club, attendees had an opportunity to observe a U.S. Navy Blue Angels practice demonstration. Participants were also offered tours of the National Naval Aviation Museum and Navy Recruiting Orientation Unit, where Navy recruiters receive the foundational training necessary to begin recruiting duty.
The annual conference comes as the military services continue adapting recruiting strategies, processes, and technologies to compete for talent and meet the personnel requirements of the Joint Force.
Navy Recruiting Command consists of 26 Navy Talent Acquisition Groups, two Navy Recruiting Regions, five Reserve Talent Acquisition Groups,
Navy Recruiting Reserve Command and more than 5,000 Sailors, civilians and contractors serving across the United States and around the world. The command is responsible for recruiting highly qualified men and women who will serve as the next generation of America's Navy.
