DRAPER, Utah - What started as steep brush-covered mountain slopes, slowly transformed over the past 112 years into what we now call Camp Williams, a National Guard training site and military installation which has served as a place for Soldiers to train, learn and prepare to answer any calls to serve. Today, the post continues to evolve, remaining ready and prepared while welcoming more than 12,000 Army Reserve Soldiers to the installation.
“As you see in the news, we have a lot of trials ahead of us. I think every commanding general, every leader, and every enlisted Soldier feels the weight of what lies ahead in the unknown,” said Brig. Gen. Michael D. Kjar, the Commander of the Utah National Guard.
“If we can be a part of that with a wonderful readiness center where they can train those Soldiers and gain the capabilities to be prepared to go and defend what we love the most-the freedoms that we enjoy- we’re all in as the Utah National Guard,” he said.
The arrival of the Army Reserve not only brings new Soldiers and capabilities to Camp Williams, but also strengthens the relationship between the Army Reserve, and the Utah National Guard.
In just two short years, a dusty hillside at Camp Williams has been transformed into a world-class training and maintenance facility. The new Army Reserve Center not only provides modern learning centers, maintenance capabilities and additional space to support Soldiers, but also gives the Army reserve a permanent home for the next 100 years, becoming another part of the larger Camp Williams community.
“This is truly the Army Reserve’s crown jewel,” said Mr. Stephen Sullivan, Assistant Chief of the Army Reserve. “We’re looking forward to the partnership. We all together have the same goal, and that's to take care of our sons, our daughters, our wives, our husbands, our family members.” said Brig. Gen. Michael D. Kjar, the Commander of the Utah National Guard.
As both components continue to train and serve from Camp Williams, their shared commitment to readiness strengthens the partnership and helps prepare Soldiers to stand ready when called upon. Together, the Utah National Guard and Army Reserve build a more lethal force, united by a shared commitment to serve, reinforcing the idea “One team, One Fight.”
