Senior Airman Sierra Mueller, 39th Contracting Squadron contracting specialist, Incirlik Air Base, Türkiye, earned the award while assigned to Pacific Air Forces before later joining USAFE-AFAFRICA. USAFE-AFAFRICA celebrates three Outstanding Airmen of the Year winners
Two U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa Airmen and one Airman recently assigned to the command have been selected as recipients of the Air Force's 2026 Outstanding Airmen of the Year award, earning recognition among the service's top enlisted performers for their exceptional leadership, mission accomplishment and commitment to service.
Senior Master Sgt. Michael J. Falleroni, 693rd Intelligence Support Squadron senior enlisted leader, and Senior Airman Nathan Carver, 48th Component Maintenance Squadron aerospace propulsion journeyman, were selected while assigned to U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa. Senior Airman Sierra Mueller, now assigned as a contracting specialist with the 39th Contracting Squadron, earned the award while serving in the Pacific Air Forces before recently permanently changing station to USAFE-AFAFRICA. Together, they are among only 12 Airmen selected Air Force-wide.
Established in 1956, the Outstanding Airmen of the Year program recognizes enlisted Airmen who demonstrate sustained superior performance, exemplary leadership, professional excellence and meaningful service to their communities. This year's recipients come from a wide range of career fields, demonstrating that excellence takes many forms across today's Air Force.
Falleroni earned the recognition through a career defined by servant leadership and an unwavering commitment to developing future leaders. Throughout a demanding year supporting operations and exercises across multiple theaters, he consistently placed the success of his Airmen above his own, emphasizing mentorship, empowerment and long-term development. As a senior enlisted leader, he believes the true measure of success is not personal recognition, but creating leaders who will continue strengthening the Air Force long after he is no longer in the service.
Carver, an aerospace propulsion journeyman assigned to Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, helps inspect, repair and overhaul fighter aircraft engines supporting F-15E Strike Eagle operations across multiple theaters. Despite being selected as one of the Air Force's highest-performing enlisted Airmen, Carver credits his mentors, teammates and faith for his success. Beyond maintaining combat-ready aircraft, he dedicates countless hours to mentoring fellow Airmen and serving through the Liberty Wing Chapel, demonstrating the same commitment to people in his community as he does to the mission.
Mueller, a contracting specialist at Incirlik Air Base, Türkiye, was recognized for her technical excellence, collaborative leadership and commitment to serving others. Responsible for acquiring critical services that enable combat-ready forces across the region, she views the award as a reflection of the teammates and mentors who invested in her development. As one of this year's Outstanding Airmen, Mueller will also serve as an ambassador for the Air Force, connecting with Airmen across the service while advocating for improvements that strengthen the force.
Together, the three Airmen represent the depth of talent across U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa, serving in vastly different career fields while sharing a common commitment to excellence, teamwork and selfless service. Their selection among the Air Force's 12 Outstanding Airmen underscores the critical role USAFE-AFAFRICA Airmen play in delivering combat-ready airpower, strengthening alliances and advancing the mission across two continents.
