CAMP FOSTER, Japan — U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 2 Daniel A. Jensen, a food service operations officer with Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, was named Marine Corps Installations Command Officer of the Year, March 26, 2026, for his leadership and oversight of large scale food service operations supporting Marines across the Indo-Pacific region.
The MCICOM Officer of the Year Award recognizes officers who have made significant contributions to the installations and logistics enterprise and exemplify superior excellence and dedication to mission accomplishment.
Jensen oversees food service operations spanning across Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, managing budgets, equipment accountability and operational execution, supporting thousands of service members. His responsibilities range from financial planning, to ensuring proper execution, even at the lowest levels of food service operations.
“When it comes to auditing, all the way down to the execution level, all the way down to the Lance Corporal receiving subsistence in the back dock, I get emailed for the audit,” Jensen said. “You have to love your job, but you have to love your Marines.”
Throughout his career, Jensen remains focused on the impact food service has on overall readiness, ensuring Marines receive consistent and reliable meals in both garrison and expeditionary environments.
“365 days a year, rain or shine, in the field or in garrison,” Jensen said. “The mess hall provides sustained, secure food for every single rank of military members.”
Jensen also emphasized the importance of leadership and maintaining standards, noting that leaders must remain engaged and set the example for their Marines.
“The second that you start to crack, the second that you fall to the wayside, and you start being complacent. Your Marines will see that,” Jensen said. “You have to show up every day motivated and ready to work with them.”
While honored to receive the recognition, Jensen’s hard work isn’t for personal gain.
“Don’t ever work for recognition,” Jensen said. “Work for the Marines below you.”
