Department of War Education Activity seeks educators and aides to support military-connected students worldwide

ALEXANDRIA, Va. —The Department of War Education Activity has fewer than 100 openings remaining for teachers and fewer than 150 openings remaining for aides in classrooms across the U.S. and around the globe for next school year. These openings are targeted toward applicants with expertise in special education, elementary and various and multiple secondary school subjects or who are willing to work in locations to include Fort Bragg, Fort Knox, Camp Lejeune, Fort Rucker, Turkey, Cuba, Korea, Japan and Germany. Interested educators have limited time to secure one of the few available positions and begin supporting the children of our troops during the upcoming school year.

Under the leadership of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, DoWEA is transforming its approach to K-12 education, prioritizing instructional excellence and student outcomes, and renewing its focus on patriotic values, rigorous academic standards, physical fitness, parental access, and expanded curriculum choices.

These changes are resonating with applicants. DoWEA has received an unprecedented number of applications for the 2026-2027 school year. The organization is thoroughly reviewing every application to quickly fill available positions with the highest quality candidates.

“Having served in the military for nearly 30 years – and having been raised in a family of teachers – it is clear to me that providing the best possible education to military-connected students is one of the highest callings that an individual can fulfill, similar to serving in uniform,” said Anthony J. DoWEA has listened to personnel and parents, and transformed its hiring process, making it easier for teachers and aides to pursue available opportunities and contributing to its recent recruiting success. The organization has boosted its communication with applicants, providing clear, timely, and proactive updates, and is cutting its time to hire, while maintaining the generous compensation and benefits packages that make DoWEA an attractive place to work. • Average starting salaries of $75,000 for teachers.
• Ability to work in locations in the U.S. and overseas.
