YUMA, Ariz.-- U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Ashley Basurto, a radio operator and native of Tampa, Fla., with Combat Logistics Battalion 15 (CLB 15), Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB), was named Task Force Forge‘s Defender of the Week, for her exceptional contributions to the southern border mission in Yuma, Ariz., Oct. 14, 2025.
Over a three-month period, Basurto executed over 50 missions to the Joint Operating Area, where she called in over 50 Simulated Medical Evacuation Cherry Picker drills. Simultaneously, she oversaw the welding of over 500 brackets and the pre-fabrication of over 2,000 meters of triple-standard concertina wire in support of southern border operations.
“Basurto has distinguished herself with outstanding performance as the radio operator for Bravo Company, while simultaneously serving in a general engineering capacity – a role far outside the scope of her primary mission occupational specialty,” said Staff Sgt. Angelico Rodriguez, Basurto’s staff noncommissioned officer. “Basurto asserted herself as someone who showcased initiative and never wavered in the face of mission accomplishment.”
“I am honored to be Defender of the Week, I try to be the best Marine I can and always strive to be better,” states Basurto.
CLB 15, the command element for Task Force Forge, recognizes an outstanding Marine or Sailor each week who demonstrates exceptional performance, initiative, and excellence in support of the southern border mission, highlighting their critical role in national security efforts.
